Riding Profile: Niagara Falls

Ontario Byelections 2014 - Niagara Falls

The Riding

Niagara Falls is a provincial riding that encompasses the Niagara Region’s three most eastern municipalities, stretching from lake to lake it covers Fort Erie, Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake.

The Liberal Party and Progressive Conservatives have both enjoyed moderate levels of success in the riding. The Liberals have been growing un-popular in the region over the past few years, so much so that former Liberal MPP Kim Craitor did not include his party’s affiliation on his election signs when he successfully retained his seat in the 2011 general election.

A byelection was called for Feb. 13 after Craitor announced his sudden resignation in September, citing mental exhaustion as his reason for leaving politics.
