The popularity of Toronto’s top politico has risen slightly following the announcement that a video that allegedly shows him smoking crack cocaine exists, according to a new poll.

A Forum Research poll conducted Thursday night puts Mayor Rob Ford’s approval rating at 44 per cent – up 5 points from a poll conducted earlier this week.

And while his approval rating may have risen, the majority of respondents – 60 per cent – say that it’s time for Ford to resign, with 68 per cent believing that the Ford video is authentic and 59 per cent believing that it will be made public at some point.

"We know his core supporters will forgive the mayor anything, and they don't waver in their support," Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research, says in the poll. "Nevertheless, it appears even they realize the mayor needs help."

The poll also finds that 70 per cent think Ford’s response to the drug use allegations he faces hasn’t been adequate.

The poll, based on an interactive voice response telephone survey, surveyed 1032 randomly-selected Torontonians over the age of 18.

The results are considered accurate plus or minus three per cent, 19 times out of 20.
