The mother of one of two teens charged in connection with a violent assault of a 15-year-old girl in Brampton yesterday says she was upset by what she saw in a video of the incident.

“I was hurt. As a mother, I was hurt. For the girl, even last night I was saying thanks to God that nothing happened to her,” Sandra Gordon told reporters Wednesday afternoon outside a Brampton courthouse.

The 20-second video, which was shot on Wexford Road, began circulating on Twitter Tuesday night.

The video shows a female being picked up and slammed to the ground by a male who then walks out of the frame.

According to Gordon, the incident followed a verbal altercation that took place at a nearby high school.

“None of the police tried to stop it or walk them home,” she said of the initial confrontation.

“If they see something is about to happen, then they should have walked him home. But they did not do that. They waited until the altercation happened, then my son was charged.”

The teenage victim, Rochelle Lewis, was initially found unresponsive at the scene but is expected to make a full recovery.

Speaking exclusively with CP24 Tuesday evening, the teen said that an argument preceded the altercation caught on tape.

“I think something was said to that guy who threw me down, I don’t know, I don’t remember, and I just woke up in the ambulance,” Lewis said.

“I’ve been told that this guy picked me up and threw me down.”

Gordon’s 18-year-old son was taken into custody in connection with the incident late Tuesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Earlier Wednesday, Peel police Const. George Tudos confirmed that a 16-year-old male was also arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He was charged after police determined during the course of their investigation that he was allegedly a party to the offence, Const. Fiona Thivierge said.

The 18-year-old suspect, identified as Joshua Gordon, appeared in court in Brampton today.

The 16-year-old suspect, who cannot be identified under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is scheduled to appear in court May 12.
