Peel Regional Police have arrested three people in connection with a fatal accident in Mississauga last month that they say was caused by street racing.

Darren D'Souza, 20, was killed in the accident after his car struck a concrete post. Police say he was driving along Argentina Road, north of Derry Road, when his vehicle left the road and smashed the post, ripping his white Honda Civic into two pieces.

Police have charged a 16-year-old who allegedly dropped the flag to start the race. He has also been charged with criminal negligence causing death.

"Our position obviously is if you aide or abet a driver, you are certainly a party to the offence itself," says Insp. Steve Pegrum.

Officers showed off the wrecked vehicle from the collision on Wednesday at Peel Regional Police Headquarters as a reminder of the perils of dangerous driving.

Simeon Remedios, 20 and Nigel D'Souza (not related to the victim), 19, have also been charged.
