A pileup involving seven vehicles in a Scarborough intersection sent at least one person to hospital on Wednesday morning.

Two vehicles were spotted speeding through an intersection north of Kennedy Road and Finch Avenue just before the crash, which happened at about 10:30 a.m.

According to the driver of a vehicle that was stopped at the intersection at the time, at least one speeding vehicle could be seen approaching the corner just before the crash, which triggered a multi-car chain reaction.

The speeding vehicle, a Mercedes SUV, then veered away from the crash into a transport truck.

Police say speed and distracted driving appear to be factors in the collision. No charges have been laid.

The intersection is closed while police investigate.

The driver of the SUV is now in hospital with injuries to his face that aren't considered to be life-threatening.
