Torontonians enjoying a break from the recent heat and humidity be warned – another blast of scorching summer weather is on the way.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the City of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area ahead of high temperatures expected to begin Tuesday.

The warning also covers Halton, Peel, Durham and York regions, as well as Niagara and the City of Hamilton.

“This may be the longest and most significant heat wave of the summer so far,” a statement from Environment Canada Monday afternoon advised.

“A hot and humid air mass will return from the United States beginning Tuesday afternoon, when afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach the low 30s,” the weather agency said.

“The air mass will become considerably more humid Tuesday night, which will keep overnight temperatures near 20 is most areas.”

The hot and humid conditions are expected to remain through to Friday.

“Afternoon temperatures will reach the low-to-mid 30s, and early morning minimum temperatures may briefly reach the low 20s,” Environment Canada said.

Indications suggest that showers and thunderstorms may move through the region Friday.

“If this occurs as forecast, some relief from the heat and humidity will be expected in time for next weekend,” Environment Canada said.
