TORONTO - Vancouver's Rebecca Marino learned at Friday's women's Rogers Cup draw who her first-round opponent will be.

The No. 41-ranked Canadian will take on No. 42 Ekaterina Makarova of Russia when the main singles draw gets underway Monday at Toronto's Rexall Centre.

Marino gained direct entry into the main draw when Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru withdrew due to injury. It will be her first main-draw appearance at the tournament.

Canadian wild card entries Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., also learned their main-draw opponents.

Bouchard is set to meet No. 11 Andrea Petkovic of Germany, while Wozniak will face No. 21 Shahar Peer of Israel. Dubois faces a qualifier in the first round.

Americans Venus and Serena Williams were on hand in Toronto on Friday to assist with the draw. No. 34 Venus Williams will take on No. 18 Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in the first round, while Serena faces Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko.

If the Williams sisters were to meet, it could only happen in the finals.

No. 2 Kim Clijsters and top-seed Caroline Wozniacki are on separate sides and could meet in the final.

In the men's draw, wild card Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, B.C., will play Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela, with the winner taking on Roger Federer.

Montreal's Erik Chvojka, also a wild card, will play Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Federer and top-seed Novak Djokovic are on the same side and could potentially meet in the semifinals.

No. 2 Rafael Nadal and defending Rogers Cup champion Andy Murray are on the other side.

The men's draw is missing rising star Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., who is recovering from hip surgery. The young Canadian will work as an analyst for broadcaster Rogers Sportsnet.

The tournament, which will be played over the same week in a virtual combined format for the first time, got off to a shaky start Friday. Technical difficulties prevented organizers from unveiling the men's and women's draw through a webcast as originally planned.

The women's tournament will be played at Rexall Centre in Toronto, while Montreal's Uniprix Stadium will host the men's tournament. The Aug. 8-14 events will be played during the same week this year for the first time.
