LAVAL, Que. - The sale of the Montreal Canadiens to a group led by the Molson family is going ahead.

The Molson brothers say the structure of the new ownership group has been finalized. And the deal should be done in the next few weeks, subject to final approval by the National Hockey League.

Pierre Boivin is staying on as team president.

The announcement was made jointly by team owner George Gillett and Geoff Molson at the Canadiens annual charity golf tournament.

Gillett agreed to sell the club in June. He has owned the team since 2001.
