TORONTO - A familiar face is leading Toronto's bid for the 2015 Pan American Games.

David Peterson, who served as the province's Liberal premier from 1985 to 1990, will head up the attempt to land the event for Ontario's Golden Horseshoe area.

Premier Dalton McGuinty said in a release that Peterson's involvement will `invigorate' the province's bid.

If the bid is successful, it's estimated the Pan Am Games could generate close to $2 billion in economic activity and create 17,000 jobs.

Peterson played a key role in Toronto's failed bids to host the 1996 and 2008 Olympics.

McGuinty travelled to China during the Beijing Olympics to meet with Pan Am Games officials t
