Wayne GatesAs president of the Unifor Local 199 Gates is one of the most recognizable faces in a region hit hard by manufacturing job losses. The married father of three, and grandfather of five, has served on Niagara Falls city council since 2010.

Gates said that on every door he knocks on, he’s hearing the same main issues residents are concerned about.

“They’re telling us they care about jobs, building the new hospital with local workers and improving access to health care and education,” Gates told CP24.com in a statement.

“People are telling me that they like our plan to create jobs and get young people working with targeted tax credits.”

The Niagara Falls city councillor has previously run as MP losing twice to Conservative MP, and Minister of National Defense, Rob Nicholson.
