Gila Martow

Candidate Profile: Gila Martow (PC)

Gila MartowA Montreal native, Martow and her family moved to Thornhill in 1989 and have lived there ever since. She and her husband are both practicing optometrists in Thornhill. The mother of four wrote on her website she has “spent the past 23 years fundraising and volunteering for children’s charities and non-profit organizations in Thornhill.”

Martow told CP24 employment--or more importantly unemployment--has been one of the biggest issues facing Thornhill.

“We’ve seen Kellogg leave, we’ve seen Heinz leave, we’ve seen Caterpillar leave. They’re still producing, but not in Ontario. They’ve taken the jobs somewhere else.”

Martow stirred up controversy early in the election campaign for suggesting minimum wage is not an issue in her riding because so few work for minimum wage. A claim she said was taken out of context.

This is Martow’s first attempt at a run for any type of office.
