Sandra Yeung Racco

Candidate Profile: Sandra Yeung Racco (Liberal)

Sandra Yeung RaccoBorn in Hong Kong and raised in North York, Yeung Racco studied music, receiving an Associate of the Royal Conservatory diploma (ARCT) – which is given to those with the highest academic standings. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Toronto. Yeung Racco has been serving on Vaughan city council since 2003 and in her time on council she has served as a member of dozens of city committees and has been actively involved in the community.

Yeung Racco says one of the biggest issues she has heard for years as councillor and while campaigning door-to-door is easing the traffic congestion in Canada’s second-fastest growing city.

“Everywhere I go people are coming up to me, asking me to ease the traffic gridlock, to fix transit,” she told CP24.com.

“They’re frustrated with the lack of a comprehensive transit plan in Thornhill. They just don’t want more transit options, they want a complete, all-inclusive, transit plan. We need to be able to connect people from east to west, north to south.”

Her husband, Mario Racco had served as the Thornhill MPP for the Liberals from 2003-2007, before losing to PC Peter Shurman. Previously he had served as a city councillor in Vaughan from 1982–2003.
