TORONTO - Honda is the first of the high-volume car makers to report Canadian sales for the month of February, and they're not pretty.

The company says its Honda and Acura divisions sold a total of 7,041 units last month, a 42 per cent decrease year-over-year.

Honda Canada says the results were within its expectations.

It says February 2008 had unusually high sales, due to initiatives designed to counter the strong Canadian dollar at that time.

But even compared with average sales results from 2004 to 2007, Honda says its sales last month were down 13 per cent.

The other major auto makers are expected to report their February sales results later in the day.
