A Don Jail inmate who beat a fellow prisoner to death over a bag of potato chips has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years.

Troy Campbell, 26, received his sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Jeff Munro.

Munro, an inmate in the psychiatric unit at the Don Jail, was killed on Nov. 7, 2009.

During the trial, the court heard that Munro, who suffered from a mental illness, was savagely beaten because he had stolen a half a bag of chips from Campbell.

The attack was witnessed by several other inmates.
