The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Ivanhoe Cheese have recalled various cheese products that may be contaminated with listeria.

The products are sold under the brand names of Ivanhoe, Great Canadian and Iqbal, and include cheddar, marble, asiago, gouda, Swiss, parmesan, mozzarella, havarti, colby, brick and feta.

The products carry best-before dates between Feb. 20 and March 1, 2009. The cheese was sold in grocery stores and deli counters between Aug. 20 and Sept. 3.

The products are the most recent to be recalled since a nationwide listeriosis outbreak emerged in recent weeks.

The offending strain of the bacteria has been linked to meats produced at a Maple Leaf Foods plant in Toronto, but certain mushrooms have also been recalled as a precaution.

The federal government is promising a broad independent investigation into the deadly outbreak. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says the probe will be far-reaching, but he did not say who will conduct it, or how it will unfold.

The listeriosis outbreak has killed 13 people across the country.
