Quebec man facing charges after fatal crash in Pickering

A single-vehicle crash in Pickering has left one person dead and three others injured, police say.

A 20-year-old man from Quebec is facing charges after a fatal crash in Pickering early Wednesday morning.

Durham Regional Police said they responded to a single-vehicle collision around 4:30 a.m. on Brock Road near Mowbray Street, where a car had rolled over.

According to police, a black 2018 Audi sedan was heading southbound on Brock Road when the driver lost control of the car, exited the roadway and collided into a tree.

Police said there were four people inside the sedan though two of them were “ejected” due to the crash.

One of the occupants, an unidentified woman between the ages of 18 and 22, was one of those ejected occupants and died from her injuries. Police said they are still working to identify her.

Officers said the other two occupants were rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where they remain in serious but stable condition.

The 20-year-old driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Police charged Sohaib Abdallah Lounes with various charges, including possession of an electronic device for the purpose of committing motor vehicle theft and possession of break-and-enter instruments.

The roadway was closed for several hours due to the investigation but has since reopened.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
