Suspects broke into Whitby home using stolen garage door opener: police

Two suspects are facing charges following a break-in at a home in Whitby, Durham police say.

Officers responded to a residence in the area of Princess Street and Cassels Road East at around 5:55 a.m. on Dec. 24.

According to police, two suspects used a stolen garage door remote in order to gain access to the home.

Officers arrived at the scene and were able to take one suspect into custody without incident. The other fled in a gray SUV. Police said they later stopped the vehicle after searching the area and the second suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The two suspects are now facing a list of charges.

Police said Monday that 33-year-old Zachary Lintner of Courtice has been charged with breaking and entering, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

They said that 55-year-old Joseph Davrieux of Clarington Has been charged with breaking and entering, dangerous operation, flight from police, operating a conveyance while prohibited, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Both men were held for a bail hearing.
