Durham police are searching for two people accused of distracting a senior and stealing their wallet at a grocery store in Whitby last week.

The incident happened at a FreshCo in the area of Brock Street South and Dunlop Street East on the afternoon of Jan. 7.

Police said the victim was leaving the store when a man walked up to her.

“As he approached the victim, he dropped a case of soda and while the elderly victim was assisting him with picking up the soda, a female suspect went into the victim’s purse and stole her wallet,” police allege.

The suspects fled in a white Hyundai Santa Fe without a licence plate, police said. The pair then allegedly used the victim’s card to make purchases.
