Durham police are searching for five suspects after a youth was shot at a housing complex in Pickering on Tuesday night.

Officers were called to a shopping plaza in the area of Kingston Road and Valley Farm Road, between Brock and Liverpool roads, just after 10 p.m.

There, officers found a victim suffering from a bullet wound. They were taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries but have since been treated and released.

Police say that a subsequent investigation determined that the shooting took place a few hundred metres away at a residential complex at 1580 Kingston Road, where the victim resided.

Police say that officers located one residence that had been shot at the complex.

The five suspects being sought in connection with the shooting ran away before police arrived at the scene, officers say.

Police have not released any descriptions of the suspects, beyond what they were seen wearing.

The first suspect was last seen wearing a dark coloured hooded sweater, dark pants, and black shoes.

The second wore a light-coloured sweater with dark shoulders and dark pants, while the third wore a grey sweater and grey pants.

The fourth was last seen wearing a white jacket, dark pants, and bright shoes, while the fifth wore a white hat, grey jacket, grey pants, and black shoes.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with video footage from the residential complex or a nearby shopping plaza at 1550 Kingston Road to come forward.
