Four teenagers and two women have been charged after being caught in a Tim Hortons drive-thru in a stolen vehicle last week.
Halton police say on Feb. 7, at around 3:15 a.m., officers were called to a home in Oakville near Dundas Street and Sixth Line after a resident noticed people attempting to steal a licence plate from a vehicle in their driveway.
The resident turned on the lights, which caused the attempted thieves to leave.
Police investigation determined the group of suspects were staying in the basement of home in the area under a short-term rental.
Later that same day, at 11:40 a.m., police say officers arrested six people in the drive-thru of a Tim Hortons in Hamilton on Centennial Parkway near Barton Street. Police say the group was travelling in a stolen Acura SUV.
A search of the stolen vehicle found tools associated with vehicle break and enters, according to police.
Halton police have now charged a 16-year-old boy from Vaughan, one 16 and one 17-year-old boys from Markham, a 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman from Scarborough, and an 18-year-old woman from Lion’s Head with various counts of stolen property, disguise with intent, obstructing a peace officer, possession of break-in instruments and others. The youths’ identities cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
