A Toronto teenager has been arrested and three others are wanted after a smash-and-grab robbery at a Hamilton mall jewelry store Tuesday afternoon.
Hamilton police said four suspects armed with hammers attended Peoples Jewellers inside CF Lime Ridge just after 3 p.m.
“The suspects used their hammers to smash display cases and steal jewelry, moments later all four fled the mall on foot,” police said.
Two suspects were able to hop onto a getaway vehicle, which fled from the mall. Police said two other suspects ran through the parking lot.
“Officers were able to arrest a youth from Toronto amid the fracas, in large part due to the help from our community,” police said.
They added that officers also recovered jewelry and clothing linked to the suspects during a search of the area.
Police did not say if charges have been laid against the teenager. Meanwhile, no descriptions of the three outstanding suspects have been released.
One of them was last seen in the area of Limeridge Road West between Upper Wellington Street and Upper Wentworth Street.
“Officers will be canvassing the residents in the area for additional surveillance footage to aide in their investigation,” police said.
They are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 905-546-8935, 905-546-2991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
