Police are searching for a driver after an eight-year-old girl was hit by a pick-up truck in Stoney Creek over the long weekend.

The collision happened in the area of Barton Street and McNeilly Road at around 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

The girl was riding her scooter along Barton Street, police say, when a maroon pick-up truck towing a boat trailer hit her.

Hamilton Police say the girl was sent to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for Hamilton Police say the driver drove away from the scene after and are now looking to identify them.

Investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
