A 15-year-old suspect wanted for second-degree murder after two teens were killed in a shooting in Hamilton has turned himself in to police.
Investigators said the shots were fired at a home on Candlewood Drive, near Rymal Road East and Upper Centennial Parkway, at around 2:25 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29.
When police arrived, they said they found two victims with gunshot wounds outside of the home. Both died in hospital later that day.
The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Abdulmalek Shibli and 16-year-old Afef Binafif.
Det.-Sgt. Mike Ebert said earlier this week that at least six people attended the area when “an exchange of gunfire occurred.”
According to Ebert, one of the individuals involved in the exchange of gunfire was also part of a bear spray attack that took place at a home near Barton Street East and Centennial Parkway North at around midnight.
“At this time, police believe the shooting may have been retaliation for an earlier disturbance involving bear spray,” Ebert said.
In a news release on Friday, Hamilton police said they obtained a warrant for the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect. His name and image were published temporarily after police said they they received a judicial authorization under the Youth Criminal Justice Act to do so.
On Sunday, investigators said the suspect surrendered to police. He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder with a firearm.
A 34-year-old female, who was not named, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and obstruct police.
