A man is accused of setting a fire on fire in Niagara Region after the owner refused to give him a ride.

Emergency crews received a call at 7:30 a.m. on Friday for a vehicle fire beside a residence in the area of Forks Road and Green Road South in the Town of Wainfleet.

Niagara Regional Police said a man attended the home and asked the residents if they could give him a ride.

They refused because the man was a stranger, police said.

The man later returned and allegedly set a vehicle at the residence on fire. Police were able to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Richard Sharpe.

He was arrested and charged with arson causing damage to property.
