A woman has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder in connection with her sister’s death, who was found dead in their shared home in Smithville, Ont. last April, police say.
Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) said Cathy Prosje, 62, was found dead at the residence located on Linden Street and Alma Drive on the afternoon of April 26, 2024.
NRPS said they believed it wasn’t a “random act of violence.”
The victim’s computer was also missing from the home, NRPS said. It is unclear if the laptop has since been recovered.
On Thursday, police arrested and charged the victim’s sister Carolyn Prosje, 55, in connection with the incident.
This is the second arrest police have made in connection with this incident.
Previously, NRPS arrested and charged Joseph Villneff, 42, for first degree murder in early October.
Villneff also lived with the victim in her Smithville home, NRPS said.
Prosje is being held in the City of St. Catharines pending a bail hearing on Friday.
Police continue to ask anyone with additional information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
