Peel police say they have arrested a suspect accused of shooting another man inside a vehicle in Brampton in an incident investigators have described as a case of mistaken identity.
The shooting occurred on Nov. 9, 2024, in the area of Inder Heights Drive and Mayfield Road.
According to police, an armed suspect occupying a stolen vehicle shot a man multiple times while he was seated in his car.
The victim, police said, was taken to a trauma centre and treated for “life-altering injuries.”
Police said they do not believe the man who was shot was the intended target.
A suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Hakeem Thomas, of Toronto, was arrested earlier this month.
He is facing a number of charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, attempted murder using a firearm, discharge of a firearm with intent, and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Thomas, investigators said, is also the subject of an ongoing Toronto police probe and is being held pending a “lengthy bail hearing,” Peel police said in a news release.
