A 28-year-old man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal daylight stabbing of a man last month in Mississauga.
The incident happened on May 19 near Hurontario Street and Agnes Street, just north of Dundas Street.
Peel Regional Police say they were called to that area at around 12:15 p.m. for reports of a stabbing.
Investigators say the victim and suspect got into a fight in a nearby parking lot. During the altercation, the victim was stabbed.
Bystanders attempted life-saving measures on the victim before emergency services arrived, according to police. However, the victim who was previously identified by police as 32-year-old Chay Wilson of Mississauga, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, police identified the suspect as Jerome Edwards, 28, of no fixed address. Police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. He was wanted for second-degree murder.
Last Friday, police arrested Edwards in Etobicoke, near The Queensway and Kipling Avenue.
He has been charged with first-degree murder and was in custody pending a bail hearing.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information about this investigation and/or the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
