Toronto police detonate ‘explosive materials’ found at storage locker

Toronto police's bomb disposal unit initiated a controlled detonation after explosive materials were discovered at a storage locker.

Toronto police say “explosive materials” found at a storage locker have been detonated at Tommy Thompson Park.

Police were initially called to a facility on Bermondsey Road, south of Eglinton Avenue East, around 8:45 a.m. for a suspicious package.

The explosive disposal unit arrived and secured the package, police said.

They confirmed to CTV News Toronto that the package was moved to Tommy Thompson Park, where a controlled detonation was conducted.

Residents in the area were advised that they might hear a loud bang as a result, but the police said there was no risk to public safety.

It is not immediately known what kind of explosive materials were found and who placed them in the storage locker.
