The GTA was hit by a winter storm it hasn’t seen in three years, dumping 26 centimetres of snow that has disrupted transit and caused headaches for drivers.

Both GO Transit and the TTC have adjusted their schedules as snow cleanup continues.

Meanwhile, dozens of flights have been cancelled at Pearson International Airport.

Here is what you need to know about for your afternoon commute:

TTC

  • The TTC says that customers will experience significant delays across its entire streetcar network due to weather and mechanical issues.
  • Several bus routes are currently on detour due to the weather conditions. Meanwhile, all bus stops removed from service due to the snow are back in service.
  • All express buses that were converted to local bus services have returned back to their normal routes.
  • TTC spokesperson Susan Nguyen says that the subway will be the best option for anyone trying to navigate the city today.
  • The TTC says that staff will also monitor surface routes throughout Thursday and may replace streetcar service with buses on select routes to allow more streetcars to operate downtown.

GO Transit

  • GO Transit says that it’s operating on a special schedule on Thursday to ensure it can “maintain reliable service” while keeping trains clear of snow and ice build-up. The transit agency says that some train trips have been cancelled or modified as a result.
  • GO Transit says there are also numerous GO bus delays, particularly in the Kitchener, Milton, Georgetown and Hamilton areas. Some buses are not servicing a number of stops due to weather-related road conditions. GO Transit says that most delays are 15 minutes or less. However, some trips have been cancelled.
