Explore unique places in the city with Doors Open Toronto

Access to some of Toronto’s behind the scenes locations will become easier as Doors Open Toronto returns this Saturday and Sunday.

Between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the event will give access to more than 160 sites across the city that are typically closed to the public.

For the first time in the program’s history, the CN Tower is participating in the event. However, free tickets for the tours filled up quickly.

Visitors who secured tickets will gain access to areas normally off-limits to the public, including a number of operational spaces.

In a statement to CTV News, a spokesperson for the CN Tower said organizers anticipated the excitement.

“We were anticipating this would be a hot ticket, as this is the first time in the CN Tower’s history that the public has been invited to visit these areas,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that tour capacity is limited because some areas include “narrow passageways and tight spaces.”

The tour also includes archival footage and historical artifacts.

“We’re delighted to welcome the CN Tower to Doors Open Toronto for the first time, especially as it celebrates its 50th anniversary,” a City of Toronto spokesperson said in a statement.

“As the city’s most iconic landmark, its inclusion adds a unique and exciting dimension to this year’s lineup.”

Other notable sites participating in Doors Open Toronto include the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, the University of Toronto’s Daniels Building and the Redpath Sugar Refinery.

A full list of participating sites and visiting hours is available on the Doors Open Toronto website.
