OPP investigate shooting on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga

Peel police say a shooting victim pulled off the highway and drove to a gas station near Creditview and Britannia to call police.

An investigation is underway after a shooting on Highway 401 in Mississauga overnight.

Shots rang out in the eastbound collector lanes of the highway near Mavis Road at around 12:15 a.m.

Several shots were fired at the vehicle and the driver pulled off the highway to a nearby gas station

One occupant sustained minor injuries after being struck by debris from a broken window, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Investigators believe there is no wider threat to public safety at this time,” the OPP said in a news release issued Friday.

“The OPP urges community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to police.”

The investigation, police said, is ongoing and will be carried out by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident, or dash camera footage from the area, to contact the OPP.

All eastbound collector lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours at Winston Churchill Boulevard for the police investigation but the highway reopened at around 7 a.m.
