Inspector Jon Rose gives an update on the investigation after a woman was fatally struck by a truck in Cabbagetown.

A 39-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a cement truck in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Gerrard and Parliament streets at around 12:30 p.m.

Police said the cement truck had just started to move as the traffic lights turned green when the woman crossed the road and was struck.

Video from a nearby business captured the incident. The truck stopped after hitting the pedestrian.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Duty Insp. Jon Rose said emergency services arrived “within minutes” and located the woman suffering from severe trauma.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services personnel, the female pedestrian, age 39, I can sadly say, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Rose said.
