Police vehiecles are seen outside Toronto's Main Street Station on June 28 following a stabbing.

Police have charged a man in connection with an “unprovoked” daytime assault that happened over the weekend in Toronto’s east end.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, at around 12:45 p.m., in the area of Danforth Avenue and Main Street, near Main Street Station.

Toronto police say the suspect approached the victim from behind and stabbed them in the back before fleeing the scene.

Paramedics previously told CP24 that they transported an adult male to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Officials did not say if they were known to each other.

On Tuesday, police arrested 29-year-old Nathan Grant, of Toronto. Grant has been charged with assault with a weapon, and assault cause bodily harm.

The charges have not been tested in court.
