Organizers with the Taste of Little Jamaica festival say they have been forced to cancel their inaugural event after being unable to “secure all of the required approvals.”
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the inaugural Taste of Little Jamaica,” a statement on social media read.
“Over the past several months, we have worked closely with the City of Toronto and community partners throughout the event planning and permitting process. While every effort was made to move the event forward, we were ultimately unable to secure all of the approvals required to proceed this year.”
The event was set to run on July 18 on Eglinton Avenue West, between Oakwood and Glenholme avenues.

The social media post goes on to say that the organizers are “deeply disappointed” by the development.
“We respect the City’s permitting process and appreciate the time and collaboration of everyone involved,” the statement read.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our vendors, performers, sponsors, volunteers, community partners, and everyone who expressed excitement about celebrating the culture, cuisine, and spirit of Little Jamaica with us.”
Mayor’s office committed to supporting event
In a statement provided to CP24, Mayor Olivia Chow’s office said their “commitment to supporting Taste of Little Jamaica and the community remains strong.”
“The City of Toronto is working with organizers to ensure the event can happen in 2027 and bring residents and visitors together to celebrate the culture, history and contributions of Little Jamaica,” it read.
“The Mayor hopes Torontonians will join her in supporting the incredible businesses and community that make Little Jamaica special, and come out to The Taste of Little Jamaica next year.”
Vendors, partners to be contacted about ‘next steps’: organizers
According to organizers, confirmed vendors and partners will be contacted regarding “next steps.”
“While this year’s event will not move forward as planned, our commitment to celebrating and uplifting the Little Jamaica community remains strong,” the post concluded.
“We look forward to bringing this vision to life in 2027. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support.”
