Two people are in hospital with serious injuries, say paramedics, following a collision involving a Toronto police cruiser and a vehicle near the city’s waterfront on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. near Queens Quay and Lower Sherbourne Street.

Toronto police Const. Viktor Sarudi told CTV News Toronto that there was a vehicle stop and “contact was made” between a police cruiser and a vehicle.

Police previously said one person fled the scene on foot.

The media officer went on to say that a 26-year-old male was arrested nearby and was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

“Also from the same vehicle, a female, 26, and a female, 27, were also arrested,” Sarudi wrote in an email.

“It appears they are facing drug-related charges however, I don’t have the charge list available yet as they are still being processed by the investigators.”

Toronto Paramedic Services said they assessed five people on scene, two of whom were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Paramedics could not say if those who were transported were police officers.

The age and gender of the patients was not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
