The Phoenix Concert Theatre will likely be reopening at another historic concert venue in the city’s west end after submitting plans to the city, its owner said.
Lisa Zbitnew, the owner of the venue, says they have submitted plans to relocate from its current location at 410 Sherbourne St. to Parkdale Hall, located at 1605 Queen St. W.
“If we’re going to make a move out of a building with, you know, such significant history and heritage, why not find a home with another building with such significant impact and legacy?” said Zbitnew in an interview with CP24 on Tuesday evening.
Billie Eilish, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and Post Malone are just a few of the big names who have performed at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.
The move comes after the venue was forced to leave its longstanding Cabbagetown location after the property was sold for residential development in 2024.
Zbitnew said her team has been in contact with City of Toronto staff for “an appropriate replacement” and said they were looking for a location with “20,000 square feet with 30-foot-high ceilings and parking and a place to put a bus.”
The new location, Parkdale Hall, first opened its doors in the 1920s under the name Parkdale Theatre. It is now used as a multi-use event venue, hosting concerts, weddings, galas, and more.
Zbitnew said the Phoenix Concert Theatre will stay open throughout 2027 as management begins its transition to the new venue.
