A 53-year-old man has died from his injuries after being struck by the driver of a vehicle in Markham late last week.
The crash happened on Dec. 19 near Markham Road and Golden Avenue, south of 14th Avenue.
York Regional Police (YRP) said they responded to a collision involving a pedestrian around 7 a.m.
They said that the victim sustained “severe injuries.” He was taken to a nearby hospital, and subsequently airlifted to a trauma centre where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene.
Police say no charges have been laid as they are still in the process of investigating and gathering evidence.
“We would look at the circumstances that led up to the collision taking place. That would include the movements of the pedestrian and the vehicle,” YRP told CTV News Toronto.
“As it was a busy time of the morning, we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact our investigators,” they added.
Anyone with information, including dashcam footage from the area at the time of the collision, is asked to contact YRP or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
