A 34-year-old man is facing charges after police say a girl was trafficked and sexually assaulted in Vaughan.
York Regional Police (YRP) officers attended a home in the area of Steeles Avenues and Bathurst Street at around 2:50 p.m. on Boxing Day after being called to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, police say, they learned a youth was being held against her will, and had been sexually trafficked and assaulted.
Police say the accused met the youth at a mall two months ago and started talking to her through social media.
The accused allegedly lured her to his home, where he physically and sexually assaulted her. Police say he allegedly took pornographic pictures of her to advertise sexual services before trafficking her for this purpose.
Investigators announced an arrest in the case Dec. 30.
Kishawn Jermaine Brooks is facing multiple charges, including trafficking in persons under 18 years old, sexual assault, making child pornography, assault and luring. The charges have not been tested in court.
Investigators released the suspect’s photo as they believe there may be more victims and urge them to come forward.
If someone is not ready to report but wants support, police say they can contact YRP’s Victim Services, the Cedar Centre or the Women’s Support Network.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call them at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6800 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
