A Brampton teenager allegedly linked to an armed home invasion in Vaughan earlier this month is now facing charges in connection with a shooting that happened outside of a London, Ont. hospital in December.
Police say the shooting happened at London Health Sciences Centre’s Victoria Hospital, early in the morning on Dec. 14.
Officers say they found a pick-up truck that collided into a cement pillar outside of the emergency room entrance to the hospital and a gun that had been fired several times. They add that bullets struck the truck and hospital.
A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result.
Investigators believe this was not a random shooting. They say the victim and suspect had gotten into a fight earlier in the area of White Oak and Southdale roads, about a six-minute drive away.
As a result of the altercation, investigators say the victim drove himself to the hospital, prompting the suspect to tail him on the way there.
Police say nobody inside of the suspect vehicle, a grey or silver Hyundai Sonata, got out of the car and entered the hospital.
London police identified the suspect, nearly a month after the shooting, as 18-year-old Doneil Josiah Levy-Porter, and charged him with various offences, including attempting to commit murder using a firearm and failure to comply with release order.
On Jan. 10, however, York Regional Police brought Levy-Porter into custody following a home invasion near Dufferin Street and Major MacKenzie Drive in Vaughan on Jan. 6.
During the invasion, five suspects allegedly busted into the home through a glass door. Police say the residents confronted the suspects, a struggle ensued, and a gun was fired.
One victim was shot and brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and has since been released. Investigators believe one suspect was also injured.
A dark-coloured SUV was seen driving away from the scene, though police say a handgun was left behind at the home following the struggle.
In connection with the home invasion, Levy-Porter is facing nearly a dozen charges, including aggravated assault and two counts of failure to comply with a release order. He was brought into custody hours after police issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant.
In between the shooting in London and the home invasion in Vaughan, York police say Levy-Porter was charged in connection a bank robbery in Markham on Dec. 23. The charges have not been proven in court.
“At the time of these offences, Levy-Porter was on three release orders for previous unrelated charges,” police said on Jan. 10.
Four other suspects remain outstanding in the armed home invasion.
