Witnesses sought after same suspect allegedly commits 2 indecent acts in Markham

Police in York Region are appealing for witnesses after a man allegedly committed two indecent acts in Markham.

The first incident happened on Friday in the area of Steeles Avenue East and McCowan Road.

York Regional Police say at around 1:20 a.m. a victim was walking near Hillcroft Drive and Gillingham Avenue when a suspect began following them on foot while not wearing pants and underwear. The suspect fled when the victim called police, they said.

The second incident, which police said involved the same suspect, was reported the following day.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, investigators say another victim was walking near Marydale Avenue and Elson Street, just north of Steeles Avenue East and west of Markham Road, when a suspect approached, pulled down his shorts, and exposed himself. He then then fled in a westbound direction on Elson Street, toward Markham Road, police said.

The suspect is described as an Asian male, who stood five-foot-six with black curly hair and glasses.

Be aware of surroundings: police

Police are reminding the public to stay aware of their surroundings when walking alone at night and call 9-1-1 immediately if they see anything suspicious or feel unsafe.

Investigators believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone with further information to come forward.
