LONDON -- British police have arrested three men suspected of plotting acts of terrorism.

The men, ages 22, 30 and 40, were being questioned Saturday under the Terrorism Act. They were arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, but there were no immediate details of what the men were suspected of doing.

Police said two of the men were stopped in the street by armed officers in Lonsdale Square, north London, and that a small fire at a property in the square was related to the arrest.

The third arrest was made near a subway station in the Islington district, in the same area of north London as Lonsdale Square.

Police said the arrests were intelligence-led, indicating that there was no suggestion that an incident was imminent.

Four properties in London, including one in Lonsdale Square, were being searched.
