A man is in hospital after being shot and wounded during a concert at a nightclub in Toronto's Port Lands early Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred at the Sound Academy nightclub, which was hosting a performance by rapper Young Jeezy, at about 12:25 a.m. when the male victim got into some kind of altercation with at least one other person.

Police said the man suffered three gunshot wounds to the upper torso at the Polson Street club and was driven to St. Michael's Hospital by someone other than paramedics.

The man was in serious but stable condition when he arrived at the hospital.

Police haven't released a description of the suspect or suspects.

The shooting occurred before Young Jeezy took the stage, but the concert was scrapped for security and investigative purposes.

After the shooting, Young Jeezy sent out a couple of tweets about the incident, promising his fans he will return to Toronto.

"Backstage @ Sound Academy in Toronto! Police closed venue and cancelled the greatest show!!! I will be back! Next stop London, Ontario!" the rapper tweeted shortly before 3:30 a.m.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call officers at 416-808-5100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
