The Toronto Maple Leafs will ice a roster mixed with veterans and prospects when they kick off their pre-season schedule against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night.

Toronto will have several regulars in the lineup, including captain Dion Phaneuf, while Ottawa is bringing a team laden with young players.

This is the first of eight pre-season games the Leafs will play before the NHL's regular season kicks off Oct. 6.

The Maple Leafs are starting the campaign the same way they have for the past six seasons – by hoping to end the club's playoff drought.

Toronto last made the playoffs during the 2003-04 season, the last season before the lockout.
