GUADALAJARA, Mexico - It was a good day for the McClintock family at the Pan American Games.

Whitney McClintock won a gold and two silver medals in women's water skiing while her brother, Jason, earned two silver medals on the men's side.

Whitney McClintock, from Cambridge, Ont., took gold in the women's tricks event before adding a silver in the slalom event and a silver in the jump final. Teammate Karen Stevens of Iroquois, Ont., added two bronze medals in the slalom and jump events.

The 22-year-old McClintock was scheduled to compete in the jump final later Sunday.

Jason McClintock won a silver medal in the men's tricks event and another silver in men's slalom.

Elsewhere, Canada also took silver in the equestrian team eventing competition.

Jessica Phoenix of Cannington, Ont., James Atkinson of Toronto, Hawley Bennett of Langley, B.C., Rebecca Howard of Salmon Arm, B.C., and Serena O'Hanlon of Kingston, Ont., finished with 172.50 penalty points behind the gold-medal winning U.S. (138.60).

"I'm so proud to be part of our team," said Howard. "I'm really excited about my first medal and now I'm really keen and hungry to start a collection."

Brazil won bronze with 209.80 penalty points.

Brent McMahon of Victoria won bronze in the men's triathlon. McMahon finished in one hour 48 minutes 23 seconds behind first-place Reinaldo Colucci of Brazil (1:48.02) and American Manuel Huerta (1:48.09).

It's the second Pan Am Games medal of McMahon's career. The 30-year-old returned to elite racing earlier this year after taking 18 months off with a career-threatening knee injury.

"I did everything I could to come out of here with the gold but I just came up a little short," said McMahon. "I put everything out there today and I'm super happy to win a medal for Canada."

Steven Takahashi of London, Ont., won bronze in the men's 55-kilogram freestyle wrestling division after his opponent failed to make weight.

Canada's women's softball team settled for silver after suffering an 11-1 loss to the U.S. in the final.

Canada started the day off with a 4-0 win over Cuba in the semifinals to guarantee a shot at gold.
