TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty will provide a taste today of a new provincial plan to tie jobs and economic growth to renewable energy.

A spokeswoman for the premier says the new Green Energy Act will be introduced once the legislature resumes on Feb. 17.

But McGuinty isn't expected to reveal many details about the new legislation during his speech today to the Canadian Club of Toronto.

The spokeswoman says the legislation will tie into McGuinty's concern that businesses are too dependent on a low dollar and cheap energy at a time when carbon pricing is coming to North America.

The premier has been sounding the alarm in recent days about the state of Ontario's ailing economy, marking a major shift from the optimistic tone he struck last year.

In the last few days, McGuinty has warned that Ontario's once booming economy won't bounce back to where it was before the global downturn.
