A former Toronto bicycle store owner was denied bail over assault charges, which means he'll remain in custody at the Don Jail until his trial begins.

Igor Kenk, 50, was arrested after he allegedly swung a metal pipe at home owners who found him inside their garage.

Kenk had already been arrested in the summer and faces several theft and drug-related charges after police busted a huge bike theft ring. Investigators found nearly 3,000 stolen bikes.

Police allege he was at the centre of that ring. However, he was released on bail relating to those charges.

His trial will likely begin in 2009, but a date has not been set.
