TORONTO - Toronto area police forces say they've charged three people and seized counterfeit luxury goods worth more than $1 million.

Police said Thursday that Project Outback concluded last Saturday with seizures in Toronto, Oakville and Burlington.

The counterfeit goods were being sold as Ugg of Australia, Gucci, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Louis Vuitton, Coach, Tiffany & Co, Juicy Couture, Burberry, Links of London, Pandora and Guess brands.

The seized items included 1,523 pieces of jewelry, 340 pairs of boots, 69 pairs of sunglasses, 45 belts and wallets, 137 key chains, 448 scarves, watches and perfumes.

Three people have been charged with a number of fraud-related offences, but their identities are being withheld as the investigation is ongoing.

Police say counterfeit jewelry has been found to contain metals such as lead and clothing can be coloured with toxic dyes.
