TORONTO - Michael Douglas says he's amazed that his "Wall Street" character Gordon Gekko has become so iconic.

Douglas, 64, is currently reprising the role for a "Wall Street" sequel. Directed by Oliver Stone, it co-stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin and Frank Langella.

The actor says the reaction to Gekko is "the wildest thing he's ever seen" and joked that he's often approached by drunken investment bankers who want to discuss the character.

He says there's a good reason to do a sequel based on what's happened in the world over the last two years.

Douglas made the comments at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he's promoting "Solitary Man," a black comedy in which he plays a troubled car dealer struggling to come to terms with his mortality.

It co-stars Danny DeVito and Susan Sarandon.

Next spring, Douglas says he's making a Liberace biopic. He says he'll portray the flamboyant pianist, while Matt Damon will play his young lover.
