A man is recovering after he was shot in the arm on a residential street in Markham early Monday morning.

York Regional Police said the man was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries following the shooting on Dowling Circle, near Brimley Road and Highglen Avenue.

Police got the call shortly after midnight.

People who live in the area told CP24 they heard four gunshots.

It's believed the victim was sitting in a BMW car when the shots were fired. The driver's side window was shattered during the incident.

Officers are looking for at least one suspect, who fled in a vehicle. Police haven't released a description of the suspect or suspects, or the vehicle that fled the scene.
