TORONTO - Edwin Encarnacion led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a home run off reliever Garrett Richards as the Toronto Blue Jays ended their home schedule on Thursday with a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Encarnacion's 17th homer of the season came on a 3-2 pitch and sailed over the left-field fence.

The Blue Jays finished 11-0 in extra inning games played at Rogers Centre and improved their home record to 42-39. They split the four-game series with the Angels who are still in contention for a playoff berth.

Richards (0-2) took over with one out in the bottom of the 11th. Shawn Camp (5-3) pitched the top of the 12th for the win.

Angels starter Ervin Santana took a 3-1 lead into the seventh but Eric Thames ended his outing by leading off the inning with his 12th homer of the season.

Bobby Cassevah took over and walked Jose Bautista. First baseman Mark Trumbo was charged with an error when he couldn't handle Adam Lind's hard liner.

The ball bounced into centre field and Peter Bourjos threw to second where Lind was called out. Lind and Blue Jays manager John Farrell argued the call.

Bautista moved to third on Lind's liner and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Santana allowed six hits, five walks and two runs while striking out five in six innings.

The two runs in the seventh took Blue Jays rookie starter Henderson Alvarez off the hook for the loss. The 21-year-old, who was promoted from double-A New Hampshire in August, continued to impress in his ninth major-league start. He allowed seven hits, no walks and three runs in seven innings.

After the Blue Jays left the bases loaded in the first, the Angels took the lead with one out in the second on the sixth homer of the season for Alberto Callaspo.

Alvarez retired the next five batters before Bobby Abreu led off the fourth with a single.

Santana allowed a leadoff single and two walks in the first, a two-out double to Bautista in the third, a one-out walk in the fourth.

But he could not overcome a two-out double by Thames in the fifth. When Bautista followed with a single, the Blue Jays were even at 1-1.

Bautista started the game as designated hitter with Adam Loewen of Surrey, B.C., playing right field. But J.P. Arencibia batted for Loewen in the eighth and Bautista moved to right field and the Blue Jays lost the DH.

The tie was short-lived and they took the lead in the sixth on a leadoff single by Erick Aybar and a triple by Howie Kendrick.

Kendrick held on Bobby Abreu's groundout to third.

But he was running all the way on Torii Hunter's chop to the left side of the drawn-in infield. Shortstop Mike McCoy fielded the ball near the mound. He appeared to have a play at home but elected to throw to first for the safe out. Kendrick's run put the Angels into a 3-1 lead.
